Use the video below alongside your own notes and the resources on Edmodo to understand the key similarities and differences between these two core studies. You should then be able to answer the exam style questions below the video... 1. Compare the ethnocentrism of the studies by Bandura et al and Chaney [4]
2. The studies by Bandura and Chaney both included standardised procedures: a) Outline one similarity between these procedures [2] b) Outline one differences between these procedures [2] 4. Explain one way in which the results by Chaney et al could be considered more useful than the results by Bandura et al [3] 5. To what extent is the study by Chaney et al higher in ecological validity than that by Bandura et al? [3] 6. Outline two ways in which the method used by Chaney et al was an improvement on the method employed by Bandura et al [4]

Watch the video below to refresh your memory on the first study we covered. By this point, you should be able to write a detailed evaluation of this core study. When evaluating a core study, you need to ensure that you clearly state each evaluation point and contextualise it (by using specific details from the study to back it up). To evaluate, you can utilise the PERVERT method - but you don't have to. You should ensure that you can confidently comment on the following methodological issues: a) Strengths and weaknesses of the method(s) b) Sampling bias c) Validity d) Reliability e) Ethnocentrism f) Ethical considerations g) Strengths and weaknesses of the type of data collected (qualitative/quantitative/primary/secondary). For those that want a further challenge, Bandura's own article on his study can be read here: http://psychclassics.yorku.ca/Bandura/bobo You need to be really familiar with this study; listen to the recap below (alongside your own notes and the powerpoints on Edmodo) and ensure that you have written up the study in the correct headings in your workbooks (p45-48). When you're confident, put your notes away and have a go at the following exam-style questions: 1. Describe the sample used by Daniel et al [2] 2. Identify the IV in Daniel et al's study [1] 2. Outline one conclusion of Daniel et al's study [2] 3. Outline two criticisms of Daniel et al's study [4] 4. Explain how Daniel et al controlled for order effects [3] By this point, your workbooks should be completed up to around p33-34. Watch this video overview (alongside the powerpoints on Edmodo and your class notes) and use it to complete up to p40 in your workbooks. You need to ensure that you can: a) Describe prevalence rates of Schizophrenia (how many people are affected and what types of people are more likely to be affected) b) The key symptoms of Schizophrenia and how it is diagnosed c) Biological explanations for Schizophrenia - specifically the Dopamine hypothesis and the parts of the brain that are associated with Schizophrenia. Draw a diagram to show what happens when too much dopamine is produced in the brain (you are all experts at drawing synapses by now!) and for an extra challenge, draw and label up a diagram of a brain to show the areas affected by Schizophrenia. |
